Dc Ac Power Inverters for Laptops



Laptops does not consume so much power and further to this, the Power supplies of the laptops today are so advanced most of them can handle a voltage input range from 90V to 300V.  This is very convenient for working with Dc Ac Power Inverters.  If you would have a look at your laptop’s power supply, it would usually specify  a output voltage such as  19V 6A…or 14.5V 5A.  This is the total power rating of your laptops requirement.

By simply  multiplying the voltage  ie 19V x the current  6A,  give you the total power requirement and minimum power rating which your power inverter need to comply to:


 Thus 19V x 6A  = 114 Watt.

 it is thus safe to use a 150Watt power inverter


 Or in the second example

14.5 V x 6A =  87Watt  ,in this case a 100Watt power inverter is sufficient.


A laptop, thus require a really small power inverter.  We offer a range of “Cigarette lighter plug in power inverters for your laptop. Due to the small cost difference between a 150W and 300 Watt or 350Watt power inverter, off course it make more sense simply to go for a 300Watt power inverter, this just offer you that extra flexibility to run a small printer or a cellphone charger the same time.


Lot of people heard something about Sine wave inverter or modified Sine wave inverter, we tested and have various laptops operating daily on small 150Watt inverters, This include Apple Mac, mecer HP  etc. A modified  sine inverter is more then sufficient for your laptop application.


If you need to run more then just your laptop, Perhaps have things like fingerprint ID printers etc. You need to look at the total power consumption.  You can simply add it all together,  as example:


The total is then  174W…, you thus require a inverter  of a slight higher rating, thus a 250W or a 300 Watt power inverter.


It is important to take choose your accessories intellectually, for instance if you use a laser printer.. this is a big NO NO, why? A laser printer Burn the image onto paper and therefore requires a lot of power. up to 1500 Watt!!


Suddenly your power inverter size become 2000 Watt, something that now is not a product you can just plug into your cigarette lighter. But if you chose a inkjet printer instead which only consume 70 Watt or 40 Watt, you can still be fully mobile!

Your next question will probably be..so for how long can I operate my laptop on a car battery?  Well while driving around, there is no problem. .but if you going to be camped out next to the side and be stationary for a day or two, you will need to do some calculations.;


 Take our Laptop example   19V x 6A = 114W


Now this is your maximum power, when the hardisk operate ll the time and the sound card is full blast and your screen is on maximum brightness. The laptop will more probably consume only about 60 Watt during normal operation.


The sums now become easy, if you have a 100 A.h battery (ratings are usually on the battery ) and it is fully charged – you can use safely about 60% of your batteries capacity.  Thus in this case  60% x100x12V = 720 Watt.hour.


You thus have 720 Watt.hour available to use.

If you use 60 Watt , this will allow you 720/60 = 12 Hours!!


Be careful thou, your normal vehicle battery is probably a 66 A.h or 70 A.h size battery, and this reduce this “camping” time right down to 5 to 6 hours.
