True sine wave DC AC power inverter


Pure or True Sine wave power inverters, have the name because they best or closely simulate the same power wave for which your local power supplier would supply to you. For South Africa this would be like Eskom. Of course, this sounds great however, there are some limitations, a power inverter IS not your supplier and the power rating and abilities is limited to the rating of the Inverter as well as your battery bank.

You would often hear somebody tell you that you need a true sine wave power inverter to operate your computer…this is nonsense…true sine wave power inverters have their place, but the higher price you pay for them compared to modified sine wave power inverters must also be justified..

Ok, so where and why for true sine wave power inverters?

Most UPS systems, that act as backup power inverters  for hundreds of computers ARE NOT true sine wave power inverters they are indeed modified sine wave power inverters.

Further to this, certain equipment using “universal motors” such as vacuum cleaners, drill machines…can operate just as well from DC as AC and or modified sine wave…however there are exclusions to this rule!!!

Some motors such as roof or ceiling fans (fans to keep your house cool), run well on modified sine wave inverters ….but they are noisy!! So too are some other motors…the noisy sound comes from the high frequency harmonics created by modified sine wave inverters... so yes it runs but sounds terrible. .and that buzzing noise is very irritating when you try to sleep.
